Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 5, 2025
Introduction
Buddy ("the App") is developed by Raphael Dale Ogbac ("Developer", "we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application.
Buddy is an offline-first application. There is no Buddy backend server. Your data lives on your device and never leaves it unless you explicitly choose to share it.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect personal information
- We do not use analytics or tracking services
- We do not serve advertisements
- We do not use crash reporting services
- We do not require account creation, sign-up, or login
- We do not sync data to any cloud server
- We do not share your data with third parties
Data Stored on Your Device
All data you enter into Buddy is stored locally on your device using standard device storage. This includes:
- Profile information (name, avatar, school details)
- Tasks, notes, schedules, and focus sessions
- Academic records (courses, grades, attendance)
- Memories (photos, captions, location tags)
- Travel data (visited places, check-ins)
- Digital ID and document information
- App settings and preferences
This data is stored in your device's sandboxed storage and is not accessible to other applications.
Optional Features That Use Network
The following features require internet access only when you actively use them:
1. AI Assistant (Cloud Mode — Optional)
If you choose to enable the Cloud AI engine and provide your own Google Gemini API key:
- Your chat messages and relevant context (today's tasks, schedules, etc.) are sent to Google's Generative Language API
- Your API key is stored encrypted on your device using secure storage
- We never proxy or store your key on any server
- You can use the on-device or offline AI engine at any time without network access
2. Weather
The Weather feature makes requests to a public weather API using your approximate location. If you deny location permission, this feature will use a default location or show an empty state.
3. Backup Export
When you export a backup, a JSON file is created locally. You choose where to send it via your device's share sheet. The file contains all your app data — treat it with the same care as a password export.
Permissions
Buddy requests the following permissions, all of which can be revoked at any time in your device settings:
- Notifications: To deliver task and schedule reminders
- Exact Alarms: To fire reminders at the configured time
- Camera: To capture photos for memories and notes
- Photo Library: To select images from your gallery
- Location (approximate, optional): For weather "near you"
- Biometric Authentication: For App Lock and Digital ID vault
- Microphone: For on-device audio features
Data Deletion
You can delete all your data at any time via Settings → Clear All Data within the app. This permanently removes all stored information from your device. Since we don't collect or store your data on any server, there is nothing to delete on our end.
Uninstalling the app also removes all locally stored data.
Children's Privacy
Buddy does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not require any personal information to function and does not transmit data to external servers during normal use.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
